WIPO and ONDA will gather copyright directors from Latin America in the Dominican Republic

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Copyright Office (NCO) will hold in the country the Regional Meeting for Heads or Directors of Copyright Offices from Latin America, on next July 1, 2 and 3, with the participation of officials from 19 countries in the region.

The Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will be represented in the conclave.

This is a high-level meeting that aims to promote an exchange of strategies and public policy, to strengthen and encourage the efficient use of the structures and institutions of copyright and related rights in Latin American countries.

This event offers participants the opportunity to share experiences and identify practical measures that allow creators and creative industries in the region to benefit from the international system for copyright protection and to progress in a sustainable way in the digital environment.

The activity will be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel, on George Washington Avenue, in the capital, Santo Domingo.

An important conclave for the future of copyright

WIPO will be represented by Ms. Sylvie Forbin, Deputy Executive Director of the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector of this United Nations (UN) Organization.

WIPO will also be represented by Lorena Bolaños, Principal Administrator of the Program for the Development of Copyright and Geidy Lung, Principal Advisor of the Copyright Division.

The host is Dr. Trajano Santana, general director of the ONDA.

Officials of the Dominican government, businessmen, artists, executives and university professors, diplomats and representatives of various national institutions are among those invited to the opening ceremony of that conclave, considered important for the future of copyright in the country.

WIPO and ONDA informed that the workshops will be carried out in the Spanish and English languages, with simultaneous translation.
