Let’s go back to some key dates in Romain Virgo’s career, a singer known for his romantic reggae songs. The 29-year-old artist has come a long way since childhood when he sang with his family at the small district church called Stepney in the parish of St. Ann and recorded his voice on tapes. When a family friend told him he had a nice voice, he didn’t pay much attention to the compliment. “I never took it serious” (…) “I said it is just people in the community that want to build my confidence. When I was about 10, I had the microphone and I was singing “Amazing Grace” in church because I like the sound of the echo there and everybody was saying whoa, you can really sing. That is when I started to take it seriously”, he said in his biography. And over the next years, he became the lead singer for his church choir and the lead singer for his high school choir. After participating in “All Together Sing”, a weekly scholastic choir contest broadcast on the Television Jamaica (TVJ) channel, the Abouthnott Galimore High School Choir finished 2nd. Romain Virgo then became a national celebrity and, at the end of the competition in 2006, people asked him to take part in another televised competition which took place the following year, “Rising Stars”. In 2007, he was 17 and he became the youngest winner of this very popular competition on TVJ. One of the awards was the opportunity to record an album with the well-known producer of the Penthouse label, Donovan Germain, who had already launched stars like Tony Rebel, Wayne Wonder, Cutty Ranks, Sanchez and Buju Banton. Germain who saw the young singer’s potential asked him to write his own songs.

We remember his hits “Wanna Ho Home” or “Can’t Sleep” which denounces the use of guns by Jamaican youth. Then Romain Virgo went on tour in the United States and Europe where fans were waiting for him.
