Do you like going to museums? So, this Saturday, May 18, you’ll be able to visit all the museums in Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Martin and St. Barthélemy that have agreed to take part in the 20th edition of Night of Museums, which is also taking place throughout Europe.
In France, the Ministry of Culture’s website has listed all the establishments offering activities during this major cultural event, but unfortunately our Caribbean museums are not present; it must be said that the Night of Museums has never had much resonance here, and it’s a pity.
In any case, in Martinique, the Fondation Clément, located in the town of Le François, offers visitors (aged 3 and over, from 2:00 pm) a full program consisting of visits, exhibitions and films.
The Frank A. Perret Museum (Memorial to the 1902 disaster) which is located in Saint-Pierre (former capital of Martinique before the eruption of Montagne Pelée) offers visits from 4:00 pm…
On May 4 in Portimão, Portugal, the etablishment received a “special mention” at the award ceremony of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) 2024 organized by the European Museum Forum at the close of its annual conference. Of the 50 museums selected by the jury, the Frank A. Perret Museum was the only French museum. This award recognized : “the museum’s innovative approach, based on objects that reveal the stories and memories of peoples. This museum proposal is particularly moving, because it enables us to rethink the relationship between place, nature and the way in which generations go through tragic events. This new cultural approach to highlighting people’s experience of a natural volcanic disaster and its global repercussions is admirable”.
In Guadeloupe, theEdgard Clerc Museum, located in Le Moule, will be presenting from 3:30 pm exhibition visits including by schoolchildren, a pictorial happening, a presentation of an artist in residence, a musical performance and more.
As for the Musarth (former Schoelcher Museum) in Pointe-à-Pitre, it will be open to the public from 6:00 pm for a site visit, a paper workshop and a concert.
