Following his death from Covid-19 on July 30, Jacob Desvarieux’s funeral took place on his island, Guadeloupe, on Thursday 5 July and the body of the guitarist, singer and co-founder of Kassav’ now rests in the Saint-François cemetery alongside his mother.
This ceremony took place in strict privacy at the request of the family and Guadeloupeans had to follow it behind a screen. Some also defied the rules by leaving their homes while the island is under lockdown to see the hearse pass, others went in front of the cemetery.
On Saturday August 14 at 10:30 am in the church of Saint-Sulpice in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, fans of the star are invited to a mass which will be celebrated for the repose of his soul in respect of the barrier gestures.
This initiative was taken in France by a group of associations and personalities. In addition, the doors of the Ministry of Overseas Territories located at number 27 rue Oudinot in the 7th arrondissement of Paris will be opened to pay tribute to the artist. A book of condolence will be available to the public and messages left will be conveyed to Jacob Desvarieux’s family and the group Kassav’.
