From November 7 to 15, 2022 takes place the 2nd edition of the Art + Rhum Festival, organized every four years as part of the transatlantic race, the Route du Rhum, between Saint-Malo in France and Guadeloupe.
“Our desire is to highlight the creativity of local artists on the occasion of the Route du Rhum (…) We invite the local population and visitors to meet the artists at their exhibition”, says the organizing association Frère Independent.
More than 110 Guadeloupean artists and artists from elsewhere but settled in the archipelago participate in this great event that includes all disciplines of contemporary art namely painting, photography, sculpting, drawing, video, digital etc. The four curators are Judith Tchakpa, Christina Jasemin and Antonwè.
Inaugurated on Thursday, November 10 at the Hotel Arawak in Le Gosier, the festival offers for nine days several actions – exhibitions, visits to artists’ studios, meetings and discussions, evenings, openings – chosen by Frère Independent chaired by artist Thierry Alet to allow all actors in the art world to participate: artists, curators, agents, galleries, institutions etc.
Art + Rhum Festival is sponsored by the Tourist Office of the urban community La Riviéra du Levant including Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François and the island of Désirade. Many decentralized actions, including the fifteen or so exhibitions scheduled, are taking place on the territory of these municipalities (except Désirade) as well as in Pointe-à-Pitre, city hosting the sailors of the Route du Rhum, in Les Abymes, Anse-Bertrand, Saint-Claude, Petit-Bourg…
