In a press release, dated July 1, 2022 and sent to Kariculture today, July 18, Caribbean Linked informs us of its 6th edition which will be held in-person from July 25 to August 16, 2022 at Ateliers ’89 Punta Di Beyas Arte in Aruba.
Ateliers ’89 Punto Di Beyas Arte Aruba, in collaboration with The Fresh Milk Art Platform, Barbados and ARC Magazine is pleased to announce that the regional artist residency Caribbean Linked VI will be taking place at Ateliers ‘89, Oranjestad, Aruba from July 25th through August 16th, 2022. The official opening will be held on Wednesday, July 27th from 7pm – 12am.
Creatives from around the French, Spanish, English and Dutch Caribbean will convene to produce work, meet cultural practitioners in the Aruban art community, participate in public talks, blog about their experience and present a closing showcase of works during this three week period. The final event and exhibition opening will be held on Sunday, August 14th.
Caribbean Linked is a space for building awareness across disparate creative communities of the Caribbean. This residency allows the participants to be exposed to the practices of other emerging Caribbean artists, providing an opportunity to strengthen regional connections and cultural understanding. This in-person edition of Caribbean Linked follows the virtual edition that took place online in 2021 due to disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic, acting as a bridging year for some of the participants to connect with one another and have discussions about their work before meeting physically this year.
Participating artists in Caribbean Linked VI include Vesuhely Americaan (Curaçao), Claudio Arnell (Saint Martin), Taisha Carrington (Barbados), Romelinda Maldonado (Aruba), Justin Reinir Croes (Aruba/The Netherlands), John Reno Jackson (Cayman Islands), Sarabel Santos-Negrón (Puerto Rico), Samuel Sarmiento (Aruba/Venezuela) and Béliza Troupé (Guadeloupe).
The writer in residence will be Ethan Knowles, an emerging scholar and writer from The Bahamas who recently graduated from The American University of Rome, Italy. This year’s specially invited curator will be Sofía Olascoaga, who is currently member of Sistema Nacional de Creadores Artísticos, 2019-2022 in Mexico, in Experimental Practices.
