As we announced in our article of February 11, the Prefecture of Guadeloupe gave its consent for the carnival parades to take place, at first, in the streets of Pointe-à-Pitre. This Sunday, February 13, the revelers were thus allowed to leave their premises in disguise to walk the streets of the city in music and songs from the afternoon until 10:00 pm (curfew time). About twenty groups were present at this first meeting and we don’t know if all the revelers really did the test before parading.
As for the spectators, they gathered on all the sidewalks to see passing the “Ti-Mas groups”, the “snare groups” as well as the “skin groups”. As usual, the group VIM (Very Important Mas), known for its taste for provocation and derision, attracted all eyes. It must be said that the members wore original underwear made with masks… Contrary to the security measures imposed by the Prefecture, the spectators – to whom the anti-Covid test had not been asked – did not wear the mask permanently and distancing was non-existent…
