Nice and dynamic president of the Carnival Committee of Saint Barthélemy, Gabriella Jeannol, and the inhabitants of the island are very happy : their carnival festivities for this year 2019 went off very well and they informed us by sending to Kariculture.net some beautiful photographs of the event.
If officially the carnival opening in Guadeloupe took place on Sunday, January 6, in Saint-Barth, the parades had started the day before, on Saturday, January 5. Then, every Saturday in January and February until Saturday, March 2, the streets of Gustavia had been invaded by the “carnavaliers” and their music, their songs, their dances and their colored fancy dresses from 7:30 pm. All the associations on the island had met on March 5 for the “Great Parade of Mardi Gras” then, on Ash Wednesday the crowd had burnt “King Vaval” on Shell Beach.
The Sub-Prefecture of the North Islands, the Territorial authority of Saint Barthélemy and the Carnival Committee had placed the emphasis on security of the crowd made up of residents and also many tourists.
Last year, that means a few months after devastating Hurricane Irma, Saint Barthélemy – like Saint Martin – had decided to organize its carnival, it was probably to help psychologically the very afflicted population with good mood…
