The Ballet folklorique du Théâtre national d’Haïti obtained a diploma of “Reconocimiento” (Recognition) at the end of its participation in the Festival folklórico internacional InspirArte de Veracruz, Mexico, which took place from July 18 to 23 in the municipalities of Coatepec, Xico, Ayahualulco and Xalapa.
In addition to the Ballet folklorique du Théâtre national d’Haïti, other artistic troupes from Canada, Costa Rica and Colombia took part in this great festival that wants to show the colors, flavors and traditions of the world through music and dance. The program of this 7th edition of the festival included dance, conferences, parades and tourism.
We learn from the Ministry of Culture of Haiti (Facebook page) – led by the writer Emmelie Prophète – that during a press conference, in the presence of the Director General of the National Theater of Haiti, Yves Pénel, one of the members of the organizing committee, Marilú Hernández, explained that “one of the main objectives of this international festival is to bring this cultural event to the municipalities, in order to limit travel to the capital”.
The missions of the Folkloric Ballet of the National Theater of Haiti during this great 3-week tour in Mexico (from July 7 to 25) were “to highlight the aesthetic and intellectual values of the Haitian cultural heritage, to defend, illustrate and disseminate the Haitian culture at the level of the scenic space and the media throughout the national territory and abroad”.
This is not the first time that Haitian artists are distinguished in Mexico since on April 11, 2019, Haiti was the guest of honor of the 1st World Festival of Music and Arts held in Michoacán.
