Mission Cinéma Caraïbe Association has scheduled several cinematographic works from seven African countries from February to May.
Initiated by Emmanuel Macron, the President of the French Republic, Saison Africa 2000 (initially scheduled from June 1 to December 2020) has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The various partners have rescheduled this major event, which will take place throughout the French territory (France and overseas territories) from early December 2020 to mid-July 2021.
“I consider that Africa is quite simply the central, global, unmissable continent because it is here that all the contemporary challenges telescope. It is in Africa that part of the world’s shift will be played out”, said Emmanuel Macron at the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), November 28, 2017.
Season Africa 2020 therefore aims to build new links with the 54 countries of the African continent. Culture (with the performing arts, contemporary art, literature, cinema, etc.) and innovation among others will occupy a central place in this vast project which is sponsored by the Institut Français. Museums, art centres, cultural associations and cities will participate in Saison Africa 2020 and propose events that show another face of Africa and its more than one billion inhabitants, most of whom are young people.
In Guadeloupe, Mission Cinéma Caraïbe, chaired by Felly Sédécias, has decided to welcome Africa through the screening of cinematographic works from Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo, Rwanda and Ethiopia, from February to May.
The association organized the opening of the Saison Africa 2020 on Saturday 6 February at the Robert Loyson Theatre in Le Moule. The guest of honour was actor Bruno Henri.
On this occasion, Côte d’Ivoire was honoured during the screening of the film “Resolution” by Boris Oué and Marcel Sagne at the Robert Loyson theatre (Le Moule). On Sunday February 7, the guest of honour was Ethiopia following the screening in the same theatre of “Fatoumaya & Aya” by Francesco Sincich. On Sunday 14 February, Mali will be in the spotlight with the screening also at Le Moule of Anton Vassil’s musical “Laurent et Safi”.
