At the same time as the FÉMI, the 7th edition of the International Market of Caribbean Film and Television ( MIFTC) took place from February 20 to 24, 2016, in the media library of Le Lamentin (Guadeloupe). This meeting for audiovisual professionals wants to promote among world distributors and producers the film works from the French West Indies & Guiana, French-speaking Africa but also the English and Spanish-speaking Caribbean thanks to a cooperation with the Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago film festivals.
During five days, the professionals of ten invited countries (Cuba, Curaçao, France, Guiana, Guinea, Haiti, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago) thought about the following themes : “Cinema, an industry, an economy” ; “To Produce for Television” ; “Broadcasting of the West Indies & Guiana films”.
Among the numerous actions to promote film production (in particular, in the Caribbean), there are a coproduction workshop in 2017, a regional catalogue of documentaries and fictions for cinema and television, a selection of films with MIFTC label to be proposed to buyers, the development of an exchanges and training network reserved as a priority for young people in the French West Indies & Guiana who learn cinema and audiovisual techniques as well as the participation of the MIFTC every year in the Cannes film Festival in order to promote the West Indian movies.
