Lovers of reading – yes, there are still some! – had an appointment in all the libraries or multimedia libraries in France and the French overseas territories on Saturday January 18 on the occasion of the first edition of “La Nuit de la Lecture” (The Night of Reading), an event set up in Paris by the Ministry of Culture.
In Guadeloupe, some places where books still reign supreme, participated in this national cultural event. This is the case of the Achille René-Boisneuf municipal Media Library in Pointe-à-Pitre which, in collaboration with the Cap Excellence Agglomeration Community and its Lèkti Asi Balan program, offered two readings to the audience. So, at 6:00 pm, the children accompanied by their parents listened carefully to the reading of Elsa Valentin’s illustrated book entitled “Bou et les 3 Zours”, made by Sylvana. They did not fail to make a few interesting comments afterwards…
Around 6:45 pm, all these beautiful people headed for the majestic wooden staircase of this Creole architecture building which is the old town hall of the city. Adults and children took places on the steps to listen to the reading of a play called “La Médaille” written by Marie-Thérèse Picard and read by two students from Carnot High School in Pointe-à-Pitre and an actress. For about 35 minutes, the audience was hanging on every word uttered by the three readers of this work, which features a boy and a girl who arrive on the bank of a river and wonder about the meaning of life and death, as well as relationship between beings… At the end of this theatralized reading, the readers but also the author of the play which was present were warmly applauded. Some listeners who were very enthusiastic and inhabited by the story even said they saw themselves sitting on the banks of this famous river with the characters… This evening of readings ended with the delivery of vouchers sent by the Ministry of Culture allowing toddlers to buy a book in an island bookstore.
