Last April, Franck Nicolas began a hunger strike so that jazz from Guadeloupe and Martinique is accepted in major festivals in France, among other things. On Friday, November 16, the Guadeloupean trumpet player was scheduled from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm on the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe stage located at the Memorial ACTe. The artist who already released 14 albums and is presented as a creator of musical concepts has shared with the public his “Jazz Ka Philosophy” whith three musicians namely Joby Julienne and Marcel Magnat (percussionists) and Didier Bride (keyboardist).
The first music track Franck Nicolas performed in front of an attentive audience was entitled “Rovélas” and was a tribute to the great Guadeloupean painter, Michel Rovélas. Then, it was “Coquillage”, so he used a conch shell in place of his trumpet… Then, the crowd listened to “Jean-Pierre”, a composition inspired by the famous American trumpet player, Miles Davis. A tribute to another great musician (Guadeloupean, this time) was given during this jazz concert: it was Édouard Ignol, also known as “Kafé” who died two years ago. “It’s a master who taught me everything”, said Franck Nicolas. The fifth music track offered to the audience was dedicated to the island of St. Martin which, as we know, was devastated last year by cyclone Irma. The artist also played a Guadeloupean jazz version of the famous Michael Jackson’s song, “Billie Jean”. Finally the seventh and last track of the concert was “Arbre des Voyageurs” and the word “voyager” was sung along by the crowd…
