The 2022 Carnival will take place in Martinique from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm

The parades will take place from Sunday, February 27 to Tuesday, March 2, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Fort-de-France with the expected participation of about twenty groups.

Until a few days ago, no one could say if the carnival parades would be allowed in Martinique or if, like last year, revellers would parade massively and clandestinely through the streets, ignoring the safety instructions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, discussions between carnival groups, the municipality of Fort-de-France and the prefectural authorities have borne fruit : the 2022 carnival will indeed take place in the streets of the capital, Fort-de-France. The first 6-kilometer route outside the city center and starting from the Aliker Stadium was not unanimous.

During these four days – from February 27 to March 2, 2022 – the twenty or so groups planned will parade on a longer circuit in the city center and will use the widest roads, namely Boulevard Général de Gaulle, Boulevard Allègre, Rue Ernest Deproge, Boulevard Chevalier Sainte-Marthe, Boulevard Alfassa, Rue Bouillé…

As for the time slot to celebrate, it has been set between 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm, the curfew being at 10:00 pm. Barrier gestures are compulsory during these festivities where the risks of contamination remain, however, very high. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) has released the Covid-19 figures in Martinique in the week of February 14 to 20, 2022 : 4,890 positive cases, 261 patients under oxygenation at home, 74 patients hospitalized including 16 in critical care, 861 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic.
