Démos Guadeloupe Cap Excellence orchestra needs money to go and play at the Cité de la Musique-Philharmonie de Paris on June 19. A fundraising campaign is organized on the crowdfunding platform KissKissBankBank.
Démos Guadeloupe Cap Excellence, this orchestra made up of children from disadvantaged neighborhoods in Les Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre and Baie-Mahault, intends to be the ambassador of Guadeloupe in France. To do this, it needs to be funded.
The Department of Cultural Affairs of the Cap Excellence Agglomeration Community decided to collect funds on the crowdfunding platform KissKissBankBank from companies and individuals. Its goal is to allow 87 children from the orchestra to go to Paris to perform on June 19, 2020 at the Cité de la Musique-Philharmonie de Paris.
Several donation amounts are available: € 5, € 10, € 25, € 50, € 80, € 100, € 200, € 300, € 500, € 1,000, € 1,500, € 2,500, € 4,000, € 10,000, € 20,000. Each of these amounts corresponds not only to a reduction in income taxes if you are an individual or on corporate income tax if you are a company but also the mention of your name in the Newsletter of the travel project to the Philharmonie or on the wall of thanks, an invitation to the concert “Démos Gwadloup An Mouvman” on May 8, 2020, an invitation to the concert on June 13, 2020 at Hall Paul Chonchon in Pointe-à-Pitre, an invitation to come and applaud Démos on June 19, 2020 at the Cité de la Musique in Paris if you live in France, an invitation to workshops, t-shirts, mugs, postcards, posters, USB keys with the anthem “Démos Gwadloup tu fais des merveilles”, backpacks, bags with surprise gifts, your logo on communication media if you are a company etc.
In summary, almost everything was done to convince individuals and companies to take part in this social and musical project.
Deserving children
It is, however, regrettable that these children who have already made great efforts to learn an instrument and play in an orchestra are forced to call on individuals and companies to make their trip a reality. Cap Excellence is the agglomeration community in the Guadeloupe archipelago with the largest budget, it moves millions of euros, it could have financed this first trip of its orchestra without these children having to beg for money. Maybe it plans for them a career as musicians in the Paris metro in a few years…
Recall that Demos or Dispositif d’éducation musicale et orchestrale à vocation sociale (System for musical and orchestral education with a social vocation) was launched in 2010 and is piloted by the Cité de la Musique-Philharmonie de Paris. This national project which has the support of the State, local authorities and patrons is declined today in several French territories, it aims to promote access to classical music for children from 7 to 12 years old from disadvantaged neighborhoods. In Guadeloupe, the Cap Excellence agglomeration community which brings together the cities of Les Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre and Baie-Mahault chose to lead the project on its territory. Today, after ten years of existence, Démos represents 45 orchestras across the whole French territory, i.e. 4,000 children, half of whom continue to learn an instrument. In 2022, 14 additional orchestras will be created and equipped with instruments, 6,400 children will then participate in the project.
