The 23-year-old International Craft Fair (FIART) is being held in Havana from December 15 to 28, 2020, but this year, due to Covid-19, it is not international but only national.
Every year in mid-December, Cuba celebrates the International Crafts Fair in the presence of artists and artisans from the island and various regions of the Caribbean and Latin America.
In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fair loses its foreign character but it is held anyway in Havana, until December 28, with a strict implementation of sanitary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Organized by the Cuban Cultural Property Fund, the event is dedicated to the 62nd anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and also to health, science and education staff for their work in the fight against the Sars Cov 2 coronavirus.
The event exhibits the best of utilitarian creation for the home in more than 150 stands of artists and institutions in the main venues that are located in the Estación Cultural de Línea, in the Vedado habanero, and in the Rancho Boyeros exhibition grounds.
However, there are several substations in 11 provinces of the island that will be open until January 9, 2021.
Among the items on display for sale are wooden kitchen utensils, wax sculptures, saddlery, jewellery, footwear, ceramics, gold and silver work and textiles, as well as some furniture proposals.
There is also a varied cultural offer with promotional spaces, business opportunities between Cuban entities and trade and electronic payment for national customers.
As a preventive measure, the Cuban Cultural Property Fund has provided for each stand to be separated by one metre. Moreover, it is also compulsory for staff and attendees to wear a mask and take their temperature upon arrival at the venue.
Artists from the Cuban Cultural Property Fund were involved in the fight against the pandemic from the beginning, as most of them donated 300,000 fabric masks, beds for the isolation centres and other means of protection to contribute to the fight against the disease in this Caribbean country.
