Yesterday, Sunday 18 July, the death of Jacob Desvarieux was announced on the WhatsApp network and the news spread like wildfire in Guadeloupe and elsewhere.
Some believed it, given the artist’s hospitalization at the University Hospital of Abymes-Pointe-à-Pitre and his state of health, which was considered serious after his contamination by Covid-19.
Others sought to verify this information because last year, the artist had already been the victim of the rumour. He was said to be ill with Covid-19 and in a coma in a hospital in Clamart, near Paris.
In a post published on 25 March 2020, the co-founder of Kassav’ said on his Facebook page : “Hello everyone, I’m fine. I am not hospitalised in Clamart or anywhere else. I am on lockdown in Guadeloupe. See you soon”.
A year later, the fake joined reality but the artist did not die. Yesterday afternoon in Guadeloupe, Los Productions and Kassav’ Management were forced to publish this post on the Facebook page of the guitarist of Kassav’ : “As announced yesterday in the media, Jacob Desvarieux was placed in a medically induced coma to give him the necessary care. This is a standard medical protocol. His condition is considered stable by his doctors, and we will have more information within 48 hours. We thank you for not circulating false information on WhatsApp in order to let the team in the University Hospital of Pointe-à-Pitre work calmly and to spare his relatives”.
By tomorrow, Tuesday 20 July, fans of Jacob Desvarieux should have further news of his health from the doctors who are at his bedside.
