The 15th edition of Carifesta (Caribbean Festival of Arts) will be celebrated in Barbados from August 22 to 31, 2025, under the theme “Caribbean Roots…Global Excellence”.
Many would like to see the programme for example but very little is known about the progress of the organization of the zone’s biggest festival.
We do know that last September, the Caricom secretariat met virtually with Barbados officials to discuss the thematic orientation, the launch of the festival, the signing of the agreement with the host country, the creation of a management committee for Barbados and the establishment of a technical support team.
Last February, the National Cultural Foundation – a public institution founded in 1988 to stimulate and facilitate the development of culture in Barbados – published a number of job offers to find competent, passionate people eager to make this event a success, namely: volunteer coordinator, delegate liaison coordinator, delegate liaison officers, catering coordinator, grande market coordinator or youth village coordinator…
Of course, we know that the new Caribbean republic (since November 30, 2021) is no stranger to Carifesta, because it prepared two editions (Carifesta IV in 1981 and Carifesta XIII in 2017), but this time will it be able to take up the challenge, by replacing on short notice Antigua and Barbuda, as they have decided to cancel their participation in 2021?
The last Carifesta was held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2019.
