For this second carnival Sunday in Guadeloupe, the different groups paraded in Basse-Terre, Pointe-à-Pitre, Goyave and Sainte-Rose. If some have created new costumes for this new appointment, because of the economic crisis in Guadeloupe and elsewhere, others have taken out boxes or wardrobes of old disguises which have always remained superb despite the years. Music is also gaining strength. On the island, it is very varied since it is played by groups with snare drums, skin groups, Ti-Mas group without forgetting groups of Haitian nationals. There is no age limit to participate in the party because the “seniors” are present and they do the whole circuit which corresponds to hours of walking dancing, singing or playing an instrument… More spectators were massed along the streets to watch the carnival lovers pass by. The phenomenon of chairs placed by the public on all pavements, which appeared last year (especially in Pointe-à-Pitre), is back. If these seats relieve the legs of the spectators, they can however create a real danger in case of crowd movement… What about the whips of the skin groups which graze the head of these people, which was already observed on Mardi Gras, last year? One more point to think about for those in charge of safety…
