People who thought that bands no longer existed in Guadeloupe since the advent of zouk and the creation of a great number of solo artists made a big mistake. This Sunday, November 11 on the artistic stage of the Memorial ACTe organized as part of the arrival of this 11th edition of the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, two great bands from Guadeloupe which have been existed for several decades had been scheduled: “Les Vikings” from Pointe-à-Pitre at 7:30 pm and “Les Aiglons” from Basse-Terre at 8:30 pm.
The band “Les Aiglons” which was founded in 1970 in the popular district of Basse-Terre, Bas du Bourg, under the leadership of the d’Alexis brothers among others, had the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean, North America and Europe to represent kadans music from Guadeloupe. It must be said that the day before, the band had performed in Martinique, the next day it was scheduled on the second stage of the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe on the esplanade of the Port in Basse-Terre before leaving again elsewhere.
In spite of its great age, its music has not dated at all and it “set fire” to the Memorial ACTe. The thirteen musicians played several hits like “Cuisse”, “le Petit chaperon noir”, “Californie” or “Yo vwè-w” before an audience which did not forget the lyrics of the songs… Young and not so young also danced a lot during these 90 minutes and would like to continue this musical journey but the two first participants in this transatlantic race – Francis Joyon and François Gabart – were not far from the finishing line… The audience thanked with a thunderous applause this famous band, “Les Aiglons”.
