“Backshot” is the song that a 24-year-old Guyanese artist offer us during these long school holidays 2019 in Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Martin and St Barthélemy but also in the other islands of the Caribbean. His name? Saïfa.
In his biography, Saïfa tells us that “Backshot” is a love story “ambivalent, violent, reassuring, absolute and uncontrollable”. We also learn that this song was written in his manager’s apartment around a glass of wine and it was recorded with his friend Laureen Rose with Blaiz Fayah (Olivia Production) as sound engineer and the video was was directed by Killian Leite, his favorite director and the artist who is a haute couture lover wore brands such as Louis Vuitton and Y Project. It must be said that the “motto” of the young man is “to be noticed, to assume, to provoke, for freedom, to take off”.
Despite his young age, the artist has been in the music world for fifteen years. Indeed, at age 9, he was the vocal lead of a gospel group ; at 16, he was the winner of a regional singing coompetition ; at age 20, he was spotted by the famous Boston School of Music in the United States – the Berklee College of Music – where he studied for two years. When he came out school, he will win another contest organized by the pay TV channel, Trace TV. His look, his charisma and his unique voice will allow him to stand out and be noticed by Jacob Desvarieux, the guitarist of the zouk group, Kassav’, and by Admiral T that some consider as the “King of dance hall” in Guadeloupe and he will offer him to perform in the first part of his concert at Bercy, in Paris, in 2017.
