Spanish-speaking Caribbean artists exhibit at the Fondation Clément

This high place of culture in the town of Le François (Martinique) is hosting two new exhibitions that deserve to be seen.

unnamed(21)The first is entitled “Diferentes Miradas” (Different Views) and presented by twelve artists from the Dominican Republic, namely: José Almonte, José García Cordero, Gerard Ellis, Thelma Leonor Espinal, Melvis Matos, Radhamés Mejía, Raúl Morilla, Iris Pérez-Romero, Charo Oquet, Miguel Ramírez, Genaro, Reyes – Cayuco, Ezequiel Taveras.

Luz Severino, the curator of this collective exhibition, “wanted to underline how much the artistic movements of the 20th and 21st centuries in the Dominican Republic have been influenced by socio-political aspects linked to the reality of each period, making art a transformative force with profound societal implications, as we can note to this day”. The selected artists address various themes and express themselves through several disciplines, including ceramics, video, installations made from different materials, painting and drawing. “This exhibition should therefore enable the public to deeply understand what is questioned in each creation, to perceive how these Dominican artists put their art at the service of different causes, succeeding in creating a pictorial universe that ultimately touches the whole world”, according to the organizers.
On Sunday, November 10 at 10:00 am, the public was able to visit this exhibition while listening to the curator’s comments.

The second exhibition, entitled “Ronda Infinita” (Infinite Round), is by Roberto Fabelo, described as “one of the most singular voices in Cuban and international art”. This is the first time the Fondation Clément has hosted a solo exhibition by the artist. Gilbert Brownstone, the curator presenting his work, describes him as follows: “Heir to the academic training of art schools, Fabelo is distinguished by his essentially figurative representations and his great technical mastery in various fields, such as painting, sculpting, installation and drawing. His thematic range is wide and varied. A social chronicler and connoisseur of literature, cinema and music, he tackles contemporary themes such as social inequality, injustice and political ambiguity with irony, lyricism and sensuality, while exploring more intimate issues such as the subconscious, personal values, love and sexuality”.

From November 8, 2024 to January 12, 2025, both exhibitions are open free of charge every day from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm.
